What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Account Sign-Up

When customers sign up on our website, we collect necessary information to manage accounts, process quotes, orders, and payments. This data is retained to attribute orders to your account.

Payments

We use the Square payment service for all transactions. We do not access or store your private financial information; this is securely managed by Square. For more details, refer to Square’s privacy policy.

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data from the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. We may use an anonymised string from your email (a hash) to check if you use the Gravatar service, which will make your profile picture visible after comment approval. Media

If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract such data from images on the site.

Contact Forms and Cookies

When you leave a comment, you can opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience, lasting up to a year. We also use cookies to manage login sessions and screen display settings. Login cookies last for two days, screen options cookies last for a year, and if you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles may contain embedded content like videos or images from other websites. This content behaves as if you’ve visited the other site, which may collect your data, use cookies, or embed additional third-party tracking.

Data Retention

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically. For registered users, personal information is stored in their user profile, which they can view, edit, or delete anytime (except for the username). Administrators can also manage this information.

Your Data Rights

If you have an account, you can request an exported file of your personal data or ask us to erase it, except for data needed for legal or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
